2021 Parent Letter
Hello to everyone!
We are excited to be able to start this season up and get back up and running. I am sure the parents and athletes alike share my sentiments. I have just done up a quick letter to outline everything about the season. I am going to try and keep it as concise as always (and will fail, however I will make a valid attempt!). Location
We will just be running a South location for this season as it is hard to predict who will be coming back and with the uncertainty of everything it is easier for us to dip our toes back in the water just managing one schedule. I am hoping to run a Wednesday practice at Bishop Grandin but historically their marching band takes priority for Wednesday night gym rentals. I have some schools lined up to fill the void and am just waiting to firm up the details in early September for Wednesday nights.
Bishop Grandin HS: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Wednesday TBD, still waiting to hear back from 2 schools but there are both within a five minute drive of Bishop Grandin High School/Heritage Train Station
The first half hour of each CSG practice will be various off mat fitness sessions. Athletes should have with them if they find running in wrestling boots painful. (These do not have to be indoor shoes as they might be running outdoors if the weather is nice)
Gear and Swag
I still have some gear from 2019 that I have stored away in our storage locker. I will make sure that will be there for the athletes during the first week of practices.
Each athlete will receive a 2021 Spartan Wrestling T-Shirt. I do have a lot of Masks left too so if anyone wants those just ask me and I will have them at practices.
We plan to do a team order for Custom Spartan Wrestling shoes in Late Sept/Early October for those interested. They will likely cost $120/pair and can be customized with each athlete’s name on them.
I will do an order for singlets around the same time for anyone who needs a set. They will likely cost about $90/Set
We also have some fun swag planned for the Spartan Super Saturdays (explained below) which is included in the price of the day camp.
Website
The website is now live, which I will continue to update each day with any new info as it comes in.
I will also include all of this info within our Mighty networks app, so it is easily available.
Early Bird Registration
Fees are 25% off until August 29, 2021 with the code “Spartan25”
From August 30, 2021 – September 19, 2021 fees are 10% off with the code “Spartan10”
After this time period, fees will be full price and prorated $7.50 for every practice that passes. (See example for refunds below for an example, but in reverse)
Trials and Refunds
Pre-registration refunds will be offered up until October 18, 2021.(minus the $7.50 per practice that was run during that period) This will now be our trial process. After 4 weeks, no refunds will be considered. AAWA membership is, as always, non-refundable.
Eg. 2 weeks of CSG practices are 4x per week
2 weeks*4 practices/week = 8 practices
8 practices * $7.50 = $60
The CSG season fee is $711.75 after 25% discount – $60 = $651.75 Total Refund
We will be offering a one month “Trial” at a premium price for those who still want to try out wrestling but cannot commit to a full season. This will help us mitigate having a bunch of people coming in and out of the room. This will help us manage foot traffic while abiding by the covid protocols currently in place.
Payments
All payments will be done online which can be found here. There is a discount code until Aug. 29, 2021 “Spartan21”
We have been accepted by Sezzle, which is a buy now pay later service. This is to help families that need it register and pay in smaller increments. It changes for each purchase size but we know we all had a tough 18 months so we wanted to be able to provide it as an option.

Covid protocols
Only athletes and coaches will be allowed on the stage and mats. This will be strictly enforced. We will have hand sanitizer at the entrance.
All other protocols will be dictated by the facility, AAWA, Calgary, provincial and federal guidelines, which will be strictly enforced.
We would kindly ask that you please refrain from sharing your covid opinions with the volunteer coaching staff as everyone’s situation and beliefs are different and our main focus right now is to get the kids active again.
As of right now, to the best of my knowledge, the highschool system has not decided on team sports yet. So I am not sure what the school tournament schedule will look like. The club side of things seem to be booking their weekends, which I have put in the schedule page. I also included potential weekends there have traditionally had events run.
Hygiene
Ringworm and staph infection prevention
All athletes will be required to bring a change of clothes for after practice. Indoor shoes on the mats will also be required. No outdoor shoes will be permitted on the mats. Please come prepared. No exceptions will be allowed.
CSG and Adult athletes will be required to shower on site after every practice. This is mandatory.
Super Saturday camps
I am still working on getting this sorted out. However with our added age group and awesome mentors we have at our disposal we will be running 6 “Super Saturdays”. The goal between them is to run day camps with 3 – 4 fun sessions with all the age groups. We really want to take advantage of being Calgary’s only all ages club and really integrate our members into each other’s success more than we were able to do before. I have listed the dates in the schedule, however, they are subject to change if for example there is a tournament that pops up on those dates. These will be exclusive to only Calgary Spartan Wrestling Club athletes and the athletes will be given new swag that the coaches have picked out for each event’s theme.
Communications
Mighty networks app will be my number one source for keeping members up to date. I will link on the website a tutorial to get set up.

Sorry all, I know it is a lot of information and over the next month I will work on filling up the website and Mighty Network app with in depth information based on what was previously discussed.
