Cody Fairburn

Co-Founder and President

Cody, a constant fixture in the Calgary amateur wrestling community volunteers at Bishop O’Byrne and All Saints High Schools. Cody co-founded Calgary Spartan Wrestling in 2012 and has worked ever since to ensure the growth of wrestling in Calgary and Alberta. Cody is a former member of the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association’s Executive board. Cody has played a pivotal role in growing Calgary Spartan Wrestling athletes into sought after university recruits, including 2 time U Sport National Champion, Logan Sloan and Pan-American Champion, Emmanuel Olapade. Cody has been one of Calgary’s biggest proponents of female wrestling and hosted Alberta’s first Female Greco-Roman style tournament in 2017.

Fun Fact: Logan Sloan has never scored a point on Cody and he makes sure that he never forgets that to keep him humble with all the gold medals around his neck.

Matt Rauckman

Bantam and CSG Coach

Matt has been helping coach at the club and high school level since 2017. Matt Competed at Central Memorial High School from 2008-2010, where he claimed medals at the Calgary wrestling city championships and provincial championships. Matt currently volunteers at Bishop O’Byrne High School with Cody, helping with all tournament day needs. We are grateful to have Matt on the team. His contributions are invaluable and has been crucial to helping the athletes have success on and off the mats.

Fun Fact: Matt has won the Rocky Mountain Wrestling Camp Hard Rock Award 4 times and may hold the all time record.

Josh Lee

CSG and Adult Coach

Josh, joins us from 10 years of wrestling with the historic Brock Badgers in St. Catherines, Ontario. On top of winning a CSI National Championships with the Badgers, Josh obtained a B.A. History from Brock University. Josh currently owns his own company in Calgary (Badger Electrical Services) and is a Master Electrician. Josh has selflessly volunteered at Central Memorial High School. Josh took a dying high school program to win 8 Calgary Wrestling City Championship medals and 3 Provincial Championship medals in just 2 seasons. Josh has helped continued success of the Rams for 9 seasons now. Josh continues to compete at the Senior level and has continued to be a threat on the mat in many National and International level events.

Fun Fact: Josh has an 80kg St Bernard named Kevin.

James Cadotte

Heavyweight and Tykes Coach

James, a proud Indigenous member of the Calgary Fire Department, is a level 2 NCCP coach and an original member on the Coaching staff. James is a 3 time National Champion. His wealth of knowledge, expertise and devotion to the sport of wrestling over the last 20 years have made him invaluable to the development of the strong wrestling community in Alberta. James wrestled for Forest Lawn High School in his youth. James is a father of two.

Fun fact: James once pinned himself on his own gut wrench. Cameras were not invented back then so he will deny it. However, if he does just ask why he is not a 4 time National champion.

Lane Fairburn

Nutritional Consultant

Lane wrestled for The University of Calgary Dinos and University of Alberta Bears while he was obtaining his Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Food Science. Lane currently works in Edmonton and acts as a highly knowledgeable consultant for the athletes to maintain healthy competition weights.

Fun Fact: Lane has a 2 year old Belgian Malinois/Dutch Shepherd that can out run any athlete that is up for a challenge.
